Overview

Course objectives:
•⁠  ⁠Describe the basic anatomy and physiology of the feeding and swallowing systems in pediatric populations
•⁠  ⁠Explain typical feeding and swallowing development and the impact of neurodevelopmental disorders on these processes
•⁠  ⁠Identify common feeding and swallowing difficulties and clinical red flags in children with neurodevelopmental disorders
•⁠  ⁠Describe the purpose and clinical indications of instrumental swallowing assessments and the occupational therapist's role within the interdisciplinary team
•⁠  ⁠Conduct functional feeding assessments using observation, caregiver report, and appropriate assessment tools
•⁠  ⁠Develop occupation-centered, evidence-based feeding intervention plans addressing oral motor, sensory, behavioral, and environmental factors.
